Seattle Sperm Bank (SSB) supports the transfer of embryos and donor vials between families when medically appropriate and compliant with donor agreements.
All transfers must be reviewed and approved by SSB prior to movement of any materials.

How It Works

Submit a Transfer Request
The transferring clinic submits the required form for review.
Required Details- Donor number
- Embryo ID(s), if applicable
- Material type (vial or embryo)
- Transferring & receiving clinics
- Storage location
- Donor & recipient family information
- Chain of custody verification
- Policy acknowledgment
Incomplete submissions may delay review. -
SSB Review & Approval
SSB evaluates the request for donor eligibility, family limit availability, and compliance with donor agreements.

Timeline: 7–10 business days after complete submission. -
Fees & Eligibility
Family Slot / Exclusive Donors- Requires purchase of a Family Slot (if available)
- Includes a $700 transfer fee
- If unavailable, the request cannot proceed
Non-Family Slot Donors- Reviewed based on family limits and birth reports
- $700 one-time transfer fee applies if approved

Authorization Required
Once approved and fees are paid, SSB issues written authorization.
No transfer may occur prior to approval. -

Recipients complete the required SSB documentation to ensure proper records and future support.

Important to Know
- SSB does not manage private financial agreements between families
- Clinics coordinate logistics, but SSB approval is mandatory
- Unauthorized transfers may result in loss of access to SSB services
